Ghajini, Vaaranam Aayiram, Ayan, Kaakha Kaakha - the names are synonymous to Surya. The next thing would be Harris Jeyaraj. The duo is back again, for a third time in a row, the latest one is Aadhavan.
The music of the movie was released recently, so does their winning streak continue? Well, I shall reserve that to the end.
The album boasts of five lyricists - Pa.Vijay, Thamarai, Na.Muthukumar, Kabilan and Vaalee and they have penned six songs. As usual, the songs are sorted the way I liked them!
1. Hasile Fisiliye - Karthik, Harini, Dr. Burn, Maya
A typical Harris Jeyaraj number - the song starts off with a rap and thankfully Karthik takes over soon and his voice glides along smoothly. Harini too pitches in and with the music unobtrusive it makes a wonderful listen! And yeah, there's the usual Harris Jeyaraj stuff here too - gibberish words thrown in between! But whatever said, this one is definitely the best of the album.
2. Yeno Yeno Panithuli - Shail Hada, Sudha Ragunathan, Andrea Jeremiah
The song starts of with a guitar interlude and we get to hear a new voice - Shail Hada of "Saawariya". I should say he's done a better job than his bollywood counterpart Udit Narayan, who usually chews-and-churns the words! Andrea Jeremiah, the "Pachchai Kili Muththucharam" girl croons along with him. Sudha Ragunathan is sandwiched between the two singers and gets to sing a few lines. This one is a smooth number which is both peppy and slow at the same time!!
3. Dekho Dekho - Suvisuresh, Sandhya, Sricharan(Rap lyrics)
This song made it above the rest solely because of the experiment Harris had done. It's like a mishmash of Rahman's 'Oru Koodai Sunlight' and 'Kannodu Kanbadhellam' songs. You get to hear quite an assortment of instruments, apart from that there isn't much to harp about. The lyrics are by Vaalee, so as usual there's all sort of words thrown in!! The song is more like a 'potti paattu' and might be picturised on Saroja Devi, the yesteryear actress who's back again after quite a few years.
4. Dammaku Dammaku - Benny Dayal
I believe this could be the intro song, a foot-tapping one and it's on the lines of Ayan's 'Palapalakkura Pagala Nee'. I also couldn't help but feel a similarity in the harmonica piece of the song, it resemles Rahman's 'Delhi 6 - Masakali' song. It's sung well by Benny Dayal to Na.Muthukumar's lyrics.
5. Vaarayo Vaarayo - Unnikrishnan, Chinmayi, Mega
Another one that makes you remind of Harris's previous movie 'Ayan's - Nenje Nenje'. A run-of-the-mill romantic number. Unni Krishnan probably makes a comeback after a hiatus, I haven't heard him that frequently these days.
6. Maasi Maasi - Mano, Mega
If there's one song that shouldn't have been in the album in the first place, then it is song this one! It's better to give it a skip rather than hurt the ears!
On the whole, the album has a 'heard-it-somewhere-before' feel to it. Maybe Harris Jeyaraj used the tunes from Ayan's leftovers! A very tame effort by him this time around.
The movie is directed by K.S.Ravikumar, based on the story by the comedian Ramesh Khanna. The director during the audio launch mentioned that Surya even plays a 10 year-old in the movie!! It's Udhayanidhi Stalin's second production venture. It is to be seen whether like the letter 'ஆதவன்' which comes after 'அயன்', the movie too become a success?

About the blog
The obvious question – Why this name? And what does it mean?
Well, I wanted the name to be unique as well as a bit creative.
ea·sel (spelled as ee-zuhl) means a frame or stand that's used for supporting or displaying an artist's canvas. And since, the blog is going to be a place wherein I could express my thoughts, it’s acting as an easel in digital format - Hence, Digital Easel!!
